No, thanks to our Travel eSIM, you no longer need to activate a new eSIM for every country. You always book the local rates on the same eSIM.
What exactly is the Travel eSIM?
The Digital Republic Travel eSIM is an eSIM profile that lets you flexibly book data packages in over 100 countries outside Zone 1 (EU/USA). This way, you’re not dependent on expensive roaming packages, but instead browse at local rates made available for your Travel eSIM.
What requirements do I need to meet to use the Travel eSIM?
To use the Digital Republic Travel eSIM, your smartphone must be eSIM-compatible. You can find out whether your device meets this requirement here.
Do I get a new phone number with the Travel eSIM, and can I make calls?
No. With the eSIM profile, you can only book data packages and browse the internet. You won’t receive a new phone number, and you can’t make regular phone calls with the eSIM either. However, calls via WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Telegram are of course possible over the data connection.
Is the Travel eSIM really free?
Yes, you can download the eSIM to your smartphone completely free of charge. There are no costs, even if you don’t use the eSIM for a while. You only pay for the individual data packages you purchase for your Travel eSIM.
Is there a minimum contract term?
No. You can simply delete your Travel eSIM at any time if you no longer want to use it. Booked data packages have a validity of 1-4 weeks depending on the package chosen, and expire afterward without automatically renewing.
What happens if I switch smartphones?
Switching devices is no problem either. You can simply register a new Travel eSIM on your new smartphone. Please note that data packages booked on your old smartphone may not be usable on the new device, as the Travel eSIM is tied to your specific device.
How do I pay for booked data packages?
You can pay for your data packages quickly and easily using all common credit cards or PayPal. TWINT or PostFinance are not supported for the Travel eSIM.
What is the validity period of the data packages?
The validity period of the data packages varies depending on the country and the size of the package, ranging from 7 to 30 days. The validity periods are shown in the linked shop and, in most cases, range between 7 days (for a few GB) and 14 days (for larger data volumes).
